When Uranus Goes into the Sign of Taurus

When an irresistible force such as you
Meets an old immovable object like me
You can bet as sure as you live

Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give
Something's gotta give

Written by Johnny Mercer, made famous by Frank Sinatra

Just as I sat down to write, this song popped into my mind! Taurus is the most immovable sign in the entire Zodiac, even though its opposite Scorpio comes close. Once Taurus the Bull has dug its heels in nothing and no-one will shift them. That is except when that other powerful and strong-willed energy that is Uranus comes calling. So, hold on to your hat because this 8-year transit is going to be a whirlwind of a ride and being flexible and willing to go with the flow is the only way to make the most of it.

Taurus the Bull is a fixed, earth and feminine sign, primarily concerned with money and material security. It is conservative and slow to act as mulling over all the options in any given situation until completely satisfied which is the most beneficial is essential.

Uranus stands for radical action, freedom from restriction and the breaking down of established patterns. Where Uranus sits in your own chart is where you may feel the repeated need to make changes that renew and refresh whichever aspect of your life it is influencing.

As with all the transits of the planets the effect is felt both personally and in the wider world. The last time Uranus visited Taurus was from the mid-1930's to the early 1940's. This was a pretty turbulent time in the world as it was recovering from the devastation of the Wall street crash and the great depression of the early 30's. In many countries the effect of the Depression and the subsequent unemployment resulted in new ways of dealing with wealth and poverty such as government-initiated work programmes and the introduction of social security.

So how is this transit going to pan out this time around? Firstly, it is vital to bear in mind that Astrology is cyclical in its nature and that also nothing ever happens in isolation. Things follow and develop on over the years, decades and centuries. We are going to have to face up to difficult issues around banking, the economy and resources that have been building for years.

Uranus in Taurus is going to confront head on the old established order of financial institutions and wealth distribution. Over the past decades the rich have been getting richer out of all proportion to the poor. Not just in the so-called Third World but in the West many, many people are thrown out of work as the massive overblown corporations that have been allowed to expand unhindered run into trouble. Others are working on short term contracts and for cash-in-hand jobs with no safety net for if and when things go wrong. And obviously we have the phenomenon of destitute people with no prospects risking their lives traversing the globe in search of a better life.

Things are definitely going to change in many ways and while it may seem scary, Uranus changes usually turn out for the better. What is called for is radical and innovative thinking coupled with a willingness to let go of old worn out patterns and ways of doing things.

In banking and big business, we may see new ideas and economic reforms. I don't know what these will be but I am convinced it will be linked to the old established order being shocked into cleaning up their act in some way. It may be that the gradual rise of women into the higher tiers of business and banking will have a positive effect. Taurus is a feminine sign!

We are all used to using credit cards and we have long been aware that we are heading for a cashless society. The cryptocurrency Bitcoin was launched in a flurry of publicity in 2009 and then seemed to disappear until recently. Suddenly it is in the news again - which is not at all surprising as it combines money (Taurus) with digital, alternative and virtual (Uranus) assets (Taurus). This kind of financing can only grow during the Uranus in Taurus transit.

It is also possible that the 'barter' system will become popular with people offering services or goods in exchange for other services or goods and so bypassing the monetary system altogether. This happens in a small way in some communities already and serves also to rekindle community spirit.

In our own personal lives Uranus in Taurus influences our own attitude to our personal and financial resources. During this period, it may become clear that many of us are spending above our means as we try and live up to the flash and glitz that is thrust upon us by the media. It seems ludicrous that some people are famous and admired simply because they are wealthy. How did that happen!!!

We must also keep in mind that Taurus is the sign most connected to our own planet, Earth. I would hazard a guess that after a couple or more of centuries when we have completely disregarded and undervalued our precious home, Mother Earth is going to let us know in no uncertain terms that enough is enough. We really need to take personal responsibility four our own little patch before we drown in a sea of plastic! Rant over…

Above all Taurus, ruled by Venus is connected to our values. You may not particularly notice any of the stuff above but the chances are that by the end of this period you will have changed fundamentally. Many, many of us will have let go of ideas and beliefs about ourselves and the world around us, our jobs and those in positions of power that influence us that just don't seem to fit any more. Uranus is about originality, independence and awakenings and you may find that by letting go of the old and worn out you embrace the innovative, inspirational and even in some cases shocking!
