ECLIPSES & THE MARRIAGE OF THE SUN AND MOON

There is nothing quite as dramatic as the darkening of the Sun at an Eclipse, which explains why they were always considered to be evil omens. Total eclipses that are visible from earth are big news but these are quite rare. In reality however, there are two and sometimes three sets of Eclipses every year. "Eclipse" simply describes the blocking out or concealment of one heavenly body by another, most often, the Sun and the Moon. There are two kinds of eclipses, the "Solar" eclipse at the New Moon when the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun and the "Lunar' eclipse at the Full Moon when it is the earth that stands between the Sun and the Moon. During the eclipse period the Lunar eclipse can either follow or precede the Solar eclipse .

What Do They Mean for Us?

Eclipses do impact on our own horoscopes and therefore our lives. As I'm sure you already know, the phases of the Moon carry a tremendous concentration of energy. You may notice that when a Full Moon occurs in your sign it tends to coincide with winding down projects or letting go of something you once cherished, were glad to see the back of or simply took for granted as a fixture. Conversely, New Moons are linked to new growth, new relationships or new ideas. The intensification of power at an Eclipsed New or Full Moon magnifies this effect and so they can have a pretty profound influence.

I have noticed that Eclipses seem to work most noticeably as catalysts so don't expect a mind-blowing experience on the day of the next eclipse. But it is fascinating how a major turning point or change of attitude or emphasis can often be traced back to a chance meeting or random event close to an Eclipse that seemed insignificant at the time.

An Eclipse in your sign will be extremely powerful and the closer the Eclipse falls to your Sun or another planet in your chart, the more potent and extreme the effect is going to be. Of course, over a lifetime there won't be that many Eclipses that link precisely to one of your personal planets (by personal I mean the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars). But every eclipse has life changing potential regardless of its sign and your own star sign. And remember we also have to factor in any aspects the Eclipse is making to other heavenly bodies. I will be give more detailed information on next year's eclipses as we get closer to these celestial events.

The Lunar Eclipse on June 26, 2010

The Lunar Eclipse on June 26th of this summer plugs into some very powerful planetary energy. This occurs at the Full Moon with our celestial sister at almost exactly the same position as Pluto at the time of the eclipse. These two bodies close together alone would produce expressions of very strong emotions but with the Sun opposing them from the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer, the release of pent up feelings could be very dramatic indeed.

Adding to the volatility of this eclipse are Jupiter and Uranus, newly moved into Aries and squaring the eclipse to within a couple of degrees. This is an excitable combination at the best of times but it is worth bearing in mind that what is said and done around the time of this eclipse, even if it includes a few painful home truths, is probably long overdue. The feelings coming to the surface now are quite possibly going to be those that have been most deeply buried and also most raw so be aware that this could be a pivotal moment in some relationships.

It is hard to say who will be the most affected as most people’s charts contain planets in a mixture of signs, but those of you with the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars or the Ascendant in the early degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn are most likely to notice the winds of change. Arguably what is most needed at this time is diplomacy and tact as the missing Zodiacal energy is that of Libra. However, if there is goodwill, this could mark the beginning of a period of emotional honesty and genuine intimacy.

The Solar Eclipse on July 11, 2010

The map for the Solar Eclipse at the Cancer New Moon of July 11th has in common with its lunar partner in June a scarcity of the air element. So, again this is a primarily emotional eclipse, but this time I think it has more potential for increasing closeness and understanding between loved ones. The Sun and Moon are in the middle degrees of Cancer and are pretty much out on their own in the chart. This is also a time when your intuition could be heightened, and it is advisable not to try to rationalize away any unexpected or unfamiliar feelings and impulses. You may find that you are drawn towards people who are comfortable with their feelings, and if you are in any way inhibited about expressing your own, this could mark a positive change in the way you communicate. This could be especially potent for Capricorns and Pisceans, but everyone could have an opportunity to touch base with their Inner Guide.

Other elements of this eclipse chart indicate increased awareness of the suffering and needs of others generally. It may be that a charitable appeal really takes off and inspires everyone to give as much as they can. Perhaps closer to home, you may find that someone in your circle could benefit from a shoulder to lean on or simply a sympathetic listener. The theme of restriction and responsibility versus freedom and the spirit of adventure that has characterized the past 20 months is still with us. If this resonates with you, take note of any bright idea you have no matter how off the wall it seems.
